Last term, Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in a Microsoft-sponsored competition. Each year worked with a different product from the Microsoft Office 2007 suite. Year 7 used PowerPoint, Year 8 used Microsoft Excel and Year 9 used Microsoft Word.
Each student in each set competed aginst other students in their own set, all vieing to produce work that would convince the Microsoft scrutineer that they should win a copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2007.
Each piece of work was marked according to a set of criteria that varied from product to product, but essentially looked at use of product features, clarity, how data was processed, use of imagination and more.
Each student then received a set of marks and a critique of their work, which praised but also provided constructive criticism that all students agreed was fair and would help them improve their skills in the future.
All entries were of a very high standard, with no more than a five mark variation between the highest and lowest scores throughout all the students.
We would like to thank Microsoft UK for their generous prizes and all the students for the effort they put in, which has shown the school in such a good light.
