Stoke College has a very successful and active Parent Teacher Association.
The main aim of the PTA is to raise money to enhance the school’s facilities for the benefit of all pupils. However, we also like to think that through a varied programme of social events and fundraising projects we help to make Stoke College a friendly, caring and supportive community for pupils, their families and the staff.
We are aware that it can be difficult for parents to meet and get to know other parents, so we hope to attract as many parents as possible to the various social events we stage throughout the year.
The programme of events varies from year to year, but some events have become so popular that they are repeated annually (see * below).
We always try to have new events in the pipeline but, to give you some idea of the type of thing you can expect, listed below are some the events which took place over the past couple of years:
Race night - An exciting night out at the races.
*Christmas bazaar - Everyone’s favourite event ensuring we’re all in the spirit of Christmas, this is always held on the second to last Friday before the end of term. The children create their own stalls and amusements, so you are never quite sure what you might get!
There are a number of stalls to interest the more mature shoppers and refreshments are available so you can sit down, drink coffee and chat while the children are busy. Even Santa puts in an appearance. A fun and very sociable afternoon.
Spooks night – A very different yet interesting and entertaining PTA event held for the first time in 2008. Around 50 hardy souls gathered to hear something of the history of the Stoke College site, as well as experience a few ghostly surprises as well, including the famous Monk and the White Lady! Ooooooh!
*Easter egg hunt - Lots of children charging about searching for chocolate whilst the adults relax with tea and cakes.
*Quiz night - Anne Robinson has nothing on this event! The hardy perennial of PTA events, this event is great fun and not exactly intellectual! Usually held during the Spring Term.
Family fun day/car rally - Classic and interesting vehicles on display, bouncy castle, face painting, pupils performing the music of Santana, tombola, terrific food courtesy of chef, and much much more….a family event not to be missed.
*Family social and music night – A fantastic family evening out with a great choice of food, a bouncy castle for the little ones, ice cream van, and superb live music from the Stoke College bands.
All these events have helped in raising money to fund the following:
- Much needed new Pre-prep play areas
- Encyclopaedias for the new resources department
- A laptop computer
- Contributions towards multiple school trips
- Additional tables for school events
- A badge and key ring maker for school events
- Additional funding for future enhancements towards the geological garden and cricket pavilion
- A computerised inventory system for the library
- Additional resources for the DT suite
Would you like to help?
If so, we would love to hear from you.
I often hear from parents who want to help on the day but are not keen on committee meetings, if this is you please get in touch – help on the day is paramount to our success!
However, just by turning up at an event you are doing your bit to help raise money for the school, so even if you can’t be involved behind the scenes, please bring your friends and family along.
If you would like any further information please contact me or any PTA member, through the school office. PTA newsletters are also available to download below. Alternatively I can be contacted directly via e-mail at sp@uwclub.net
On behalf of the PTA I would like to welcome all new pupils and their families for the coming Autumn term 2009, and look forward to meeting you.
Lastly and most importantly, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all those who have helped and supported the PTA over the past year.
Simon Packford
PTA Chair.
