Sport

Physical Education and Games is taught by Specialist Teachers from reception through to year 11.

In the early years pupils are introduced to the fundamental skills associated with Invasion, Striking and Net games and also enjoy work in Aesthetic (dance and gymnastics), Swimming and Athletics.

As pupils progress through the school they begin to experience involvement in more structured games and participate in competitive fixtures and events. A wide range of activities are offered to all pupils with the aim to provide them with choices in the future for further involvement in later life.

Pupils of all abilities are encouraged to represent the College in local schools fixtures, a whole range of sports are catered for, rugby, football, cricket and basketball for the boys and hockey, netball and rounders for the girls.

The school is a member of the Independent Schools Association who organizes a wide range of sporting events and representative competitions. Pupils from Stoke College regularly attend the Regional and National events in Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country, Rounder’s, Rugby and Football.

Pupils from reception to Year 4 receive weekly, throughout the year, a swimming lesson, at the Haverhill Leisure Centre. Qualified teachers from the school and centre encourage and ensure that all pupils learn to swim by the time they reach Year 5. In the summer term the whole school is able to use the outdoor swimming pool on the main site.

At Stoke College we also see the importance of offering a wide variety of experience and arrange summer camps for both the Prep and Senior Schools where they can enjoy and experience several outdoor pursuits.

We have residential trips each year, Skiing in either America or France and a Cycle trip based in the Peak District. The College also offers pupils from Year 9 upwards the opportunity of completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme which includes expedition work with pupils undertaking 2 and 3 day walking trips in the Chilterns and Peak District.

As part of the G.C.S.E. options we offer Physical Education and Games. Pupils can further develop their interests in their chosen sports and it also provides them with the opportunity of trying new activities.

Our aim at Stoke College is to provide all pupils with the opportunity to participate in Physical Education and Games, to ensure that they have the necessary skills to be able to lead an active and healthy lifestyle in the future.
