Sunday 26th March
Following on from the highly entertaining Prep School production, this past week saw the Senior School take its turn with the musical ‘Olivia!’. It was great to see such a good audience for both nights at the Haverhill Arts Centre. I know that all the parents who came to see their children act and sing were extremely proud. We are lucky to have so many children who are so artistically talented and see them work together to put on such an entertaining evening.
Both the singing and the dancing were impressive and many thanks should go to Mr Marple and Miss Mitchell who led these. Mr Marple, who also directed the production, was impressively calm throughout the weeks of rehearsal and managed to strike the important Stoke balance of allowing the strongest protagonists to give full vent to their skills whilst allowing others to develop their newly discovered talents. I am confident that next year we will have an equally talented band of actors, many of whom discovered a new confidence in themselves this year, putting on another great show.
Parents may be interested to know that last week saw a milestone on the redevelopment of the Stable Block. The stripping out phase was completed and new floors and walls are now being installed as we set up the builiding to be the boys’ boarding house for next year. As well as welcoming full time boarders to the school, we will be continuing to offer weekly and flexi-boarding. The boys will benefit from the new refurbishment but the girls have not been forgotten. They will take over the first floor of the Main House and will see more bathroom facilities and revamped bedrooms.
I’m delighted to tell you too that we have had a very busy fortnight for prospective pupil visits, both local and overseas, and we are seeing the numbers for the new sixth form growing. This week we hope to be appointing two new teaching staff. The ability to teach up to A level will be an important factor in each appointment.
Over the Easter break local parents applying for state primary school places will be finding out which school their child has been allocated. Not all will be happy with the news. However, we still have some sponsored places remaining for Reception in 2017 so if you have friends who find themselves in this situation, please do urge them to get in touch. Mrs Milnes and the staff are really transforming the Prep School and we are keen to see more local children benefit from the excellent learning environment we have to offer.
Tomorrow evening will be an important session for all Year 11 students and parents as we run our GCSE revision evening. I do hope everyone invited is able to come along to what will be an extremely useful session. For everyone else, I look forward to seeing as many of you as are able to come on Friday as we hold our Easter service to close the Spring term.
