Book week at Stoke College

During the week commencing 21st March we shall be running Book Week to promote interest in reading throughout the school.
We have been very fortunate, with the help of funding from the PTA, to have several speakers who have agreed to come in and talk to pupils. Details of the speakers and the times of their sessions are below.
Parents are most welcome to attend any of the sessions, please ring the school office for more information.
Monday – Anthony Irvin: Anthony writes an ‘African Safari Adventure’ series about wild Africa and the Maasai people.

Anthony Irvin talked to the pupils throughout the day about his experiences in Africa. He is a trained vet and worked for many years in Kenya. A book signing session was held at the end of the day.
Tuesday – Barry Brignell: A bookbinder from Cambridge who specialses in repairing antique books.

Barry is seen here demonstrating his craft to Years 3 and 4.
Wednesday – Steve Parker: A writer of science based non-fiction books.

Steve is seen here working on creative writing with Year 10.
Thursday – Dr Frances Dipper: A deep sea diver and author/photographer of books about sea life.

Dr Frances Dipper shows Year 7 pupils how she prepares for a dive.

Friday – John Brindley: John Brindley, the renowned science fiction writer spoke to pupils about how science has influenced his writing.
He read extracts from some of his books such as 'The Rule of Claw' and 'Legend'. .
To celebrate book week, all Prep School pupils may dress up as their favourite character from literature, on Friday, 25th March.
We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible during the week.
