William put up a very spirited first time performance in the fighting categories against a more experienced opponent from Colchester but William was determined to give his opponent a hard fight. The opponents could not be separated at the end of the bout, which was drawn with a point apiece.

This took the fight into extra time and although William did not give up on his attacking moves, he ended up losing this bout by just one point, for which he achieved a bronze medal.

William also produced a very strong Kata display in the orange belt section and despite making a mistake one mistake he still managed to win a third place bronze medal.

The Stoke College karate instructor, Geoff Price said, ‘Stoke College can be very proud of William’s determination to perform at his best in his first ever karate competition and I was delighted with his results.
