A letter from the Principal

Dear Friends of Stoke College,

Just as the beautiful grounds of Stoke College are radiating with seasonal colour, so, too, are the corridors and classrooms once again ringing with the sound of laughter, chatter and productivity.  It really has been lovely to have the children back in school for these last few weeks of the Spring Term before their well-earned Easter break.

The intensity of lockdown teaching and learning, and that feeling of always being contactable 24/7, was demanding on us all.  It put a strain on relationships at home and beyond, it was physically and mentally very demanding, yet we got through it all with good communication, excellent provision of teaching, responsive learning, and a tremendous sense of support from parents and guardians.  So, thank you and well done to everyone concerned.

We have been welcoming a string of prospective students and parents to the school, several students spending an entire week with us to build up their confidence ahead of joining Stoke either after Easter or in September.  Our current students have been magnificent in their welcome, demonstrating great kindness, patience, encouragement and positivity, for which I am most grateful.

Much discussion has taken place amongst the teachers of students in Years 11 and 13, as well as subsequent consultation with these students and their parents, ahead of internal assessments and the awarding of grades.  We hope that you have all found the process very reassuring.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Advisory Council and all the Staff, may I wish you and your family a very happy, safe Easter holiday and continued good health.

Warmest wishes,

Dr Gareth Lloyd
