Pre-Prep - The Dovecote
Reception to Year 2
It is a privilege to teach children at an age where they are learning the very basics and the best habits of kindness, sharing and becoming someone’s friend.
We have fantastic facilities and materials for learning through play as well as an excellent library where children retreat for storytime and personal reading. We read one-to-one every day with all our Pre-preppers. We also work closely with parents to ensure that our children have encouragement and support from Mum and Dad with their literacy and numeracy.
Between April and October (and occasionally in less seasonable months) Pre-Prep School students enjoy a weekly forest school session in our extensive grounds.
Our connection to the Senior School means that glimpses of specialist subjects are a treat for our littlest ones: a trip to the Science Lab to see a fun experiment, or to the Performing Arts Block to dance along to the piano; a visit from a Spanish or Mandarin teacher to talk about different cultures and learn simple new words. The Principal gives a lively assembly to Prep and Pre-Prep every week and we always include the little ones in our visits to Chapel. They sing and perform for the whole school every other week, which builds confidence and enhances memory and vocabulary.
We are so small that children of slightly different ages develop together, always overseen by a teacher or learning assistant. From September 2020 we will also be using a range of Chromebooks: increasingly very young children want to learn with colourful and interactive technologies.
Learning full of love, fun and interest – the Dovecote is named after the late medieval Dovecote which stands at the School gates.
